Android App  |  User Experience & User Interface Design

We worked with the Benioff Ocean Institute in Santa Barbara to design and build a lightweight app that empowers the people most likely to witness illegal fishing activity with the ability to quickly report it to local, regional and international authorities. Mazu was recently presented at the United Nations as an example of innovation in the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. It was also an XPRIZE finalist.

The major call to action is straightforward: no icon, just text on a big button that's easily accessible for thumbs. Users can also scroll through a feed of globally-sought illegal fishing vessels.

If you tap on a vessel on the home screen, you can learn more about why it's on a global watchlist, what kind of vessel it is and where it was last seen.
