Me at night in an OAK baseball cap, black puffer, black jeans, and white shoes standing on one foot and yelling happily at the camera. I honestly do not remember why.

Laurel Hechanova is enjoying some time off. 🌴

FYI, Laurel is pronounced luh-REL.

When I’m working it’s usually as a UX designer and workshop facilitator. I’ve led design as one half of Goodmaker and at startups and other design agencies delivering for clients including Google, Twitter (RIP), Art Institute of Chicago, Lonely Planet, St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital and more. I’ve also taught UX design at General Assembly and helped write the UX design curriculum at Springboard.

When I’m not working, I’m probably reading, climbing, trying to learn about local birds, or walking all the way to some place. I’ve also done a bunch of podcasting [ex. 1 and 2]. Both shows are currently on hiatus but hopefully returning soon. [Note: I highly recommend starting a semi-weekly podcast with anyone you'd like to keep in touch with. It’s nice!]

I’m queer, brown, and gender expansive — the combination of which serves as an increasingly interesting lens on *gestures at everything*. I’m also small, so I can helpfully point out when things are too high for people 5' and under.

If you’d like to get in touch, you can email [my first name] at [my last name] dot com. Or maybe we can be business friends on the business website.
